Hemochromatosis??? please help!?

my husband (who will be 29 next month) just had lab work done and his iron level came back 258!! which is 100 points over!! his doctor said he had NEVER seen numbers that high!! they are going to test him for hemochromatisis. I'm so scared! is there a chance the numbers were just a fluke?? he gets his lab work done every 6 months and they have NEVER been high.
any answers would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

*hemochromatosis (sorry, I spelled it wrong)

If he has it, they want to catch it early before the high levels of iron affect any other part of the body (like the liver or the pancreas.) Once they get the iron down - which they do by taking blood, like blood donation - it's generally managed by doing that every 4-6 months, depending on his iron levels. You'll also have to pay attention to diet and make sure he doesn't get too much.

It's a genetic disease, so if you're planning on having children, you'll want to have them tested when they're young.

Watch everything high in iron and drink tea or coffee with meals. It inhibits iron absorption. Stay away from vitamin C. Report It

webmd.com

it has to do with the iron level in the blood

Look it up on the web. If he truly does have it , he will have to have a pint or so of blood taken from him periodically. Just as if he were donating blood. How often he does this will be up to his doc. and his level.

I would advise getting the blood retested. The lab does error !!! I am a Hemophiliac And i can tell when my blood count is low, and if the lab work doesnt reflect that , I make them re run it, Im 95% right. My blood doesnt clot well, so if I have been cut, and it takes awhile to get the bleeding to stop...... I get really weak, and sickly, I know then its time to get the blood draw done.
