Can you help??


hemochromatosis is it bad??

Take a look at the link below, it has lots of good info.
If left untreated it can cause multiple organ failure but with regular treatment it can be controlled but not cured.

An iron overload.. The disease itself can cause all sorts of problems if it is not treated such as liver diseases, early menopause, heart abnormalities etc.

I believe the therapy for controlling this disease is to rid the body of the excess iron by giving blood for an intital 6 months to a year and then once the levels are normal then you would give blood once every 2-4 months for life, pretty harsh I know but better than getting one of the things the excess could cause...

Now diabetics aren't generally allowed to give blood but this has it's own reasons such as taking all the insulin away and sugar in the blood but I would presume that you would be carefully monitored in this situation so not too bad.
