Helicobacter pylori? advice and help appreciated.?

My 21 year old niece just been told she has it, nurse only did faeces test. she been given 2 lots of antibiotics and stomach tablet.

My niece is quite poorly.

One of the best natural foods or health products for H pylori is New Zeland Manuka honey if you can get hold of this. Its been scientifically proven to kill the H. pylori bacteria. It also helps to heal any stomach ulcers associated with the bug.

For more information on Manuka honey:

Another health product of benefit is Mastic gum:

Regular consumption of sulfur-containing foods such as garlic, onions, or taking the supplement MSM is said to help ease H. Pylori symptoms. Other supplements that may offer benefit: DGL licorice, cinnamon, coconut oil and acidophilus.

Acidophilus helps to replace the friendly gut bacteria that may be missing in the course of an infection such as H.pylori.

Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

Presumably she had stomach pain that indicated the possibility of an ulcer?

If so, then the diagnosis is probably correct and taking the antibiotics is the right course at this point.

You might call cranberry juice an antibiotic-helper - at least where
helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacterium in female patients is
concerned.

H. pylori is the culprit that causes most gastric and duodenal ulcers.
But not everyone infected with H. pylori develops an ulcer, which is
fortunate because gastroenterologists estimate that as many as six or
seven out of every ten people may be infected with H. pylori.

Putting the berries to the test

According to researchers at Tel Aviv University, previous research
suggests gastro-intestinal bacteria - perhaps even the stubborn H.
pylori - can be inhibited by cranberry juice.

Standard care for H. pylori calls for aggressive antibiotic treatment,
so the Tel Aviv team recruited nearly 180 patients with H. pylori
infection and gave them three antibiotics: omeprazole, amoxicillin, and
clarithromycin.

Subjects were then split into three groups. One group drank cranberry
juice two times each day for two weeks, one group drank a daily placebo
beverage, and one group received the antibiotic regimen without a daily
beverage.

For an additional two weeks, subjects stopped taking the antibiotics
and continued the juice regimens.

Battle of the sexes

Overall, cranberry juice provided no additional defence against H.
pylori. But when results were examined more closely, researchers found
these significantly different levels of protection among female
subjects:

* Cranberry group: 95.2 percent eradication of H. pylori
* Placebo group: 86.8 percent eradication
* No-beverage group: 80 percent eradication

Researchers have no idea why the cranberry intervention was effective
for women, with no apparent benefit for the men.

i would see a different doctor and get a referall to a specalist this can be a serious problem ... good luck 4 your niece...............................try nhsdirect.com 4 more info not sure its .com or .co.uk

i had this and got rid with antibiotics but you dont get your standard dose antibiotics they are very strong and unfortunately some people give up taking them as the side effects can be horrid-tell her to stick with it and shell be fine x

have a read of the link below..it will be of help.

Hi. I've had the antibiotics twice, they made me feel ill, but when the tablets finished i started to feel much better. I hope your niece will be well soon

85% of all patients with ulcer disease have H. pylorii. erradication therapy is often a cure for these patients. The treatment is (oddly) about 85% successful.

Along with the other advice given she should avoid food that is high in fat the kinda things that would give you heartburn normally, ie, spicy food also alcoholic drinks like cider. I am sure with a good diet and appropriate medicine she will soon be feeling better....

Its a bug that gets into and will stay in the stomach unless treated with anti-bio tics. Giving the patient symptoms as if they have an ulcer. A course of anti bio tics usually clears it up. Good she has got it diagnosed now to save possibly years of discomfort. Nothing to worry about.

I've heard H-pylori comes from consuming contaminated food liked to poor hand-washing. Antibiotics and pepto and the antacid will help her get better soon, just has to finish the treatment.

not sure i can answer this but with a heavy dose of antibiotics make sure she gets some live yoghurt to help balance her body.

They have found out that this usually normal germ can lead to ulcers, and they now kill it off with the antibiotics.
I'd advise her not to eat greasy things or drink alcohol. Her doctor should have told her to try a milky diet,as this puts less strain on the stomach.Tell her to finish the course, and to watch what she is eating.Once she feels better, tell her to gradually introduce other foods to her system.Hope she feels better soon. :)
