Tetrus shot?

what does a tetrus shot prevent and how often should you get one. Also, if i have an injury in my heel (about a 1/8 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep) should i go to an ER? Its an open wound, covered in a bandage, and was bleeding when i got it. any advice?

It's called a tetanus shot and will prevent diseases like lockjaw in the event you have an infected injury from a rusty object. You should have one every 10 years. And yes, the injury on your heel sounds very bad from those descriptions and you should seek help.

Tetanus shots prevent lockjaw, or some stuff that makes you die, eventually, they give it to you if you have deep puncture wounds that don't bleed. It's also called bone break disease because it causes your muscles to tighten up so painfully that it feels like your bones break.

If you can't stop the bleeding, go to the ER, otherwise you'd have a shorter wait if you went to one of those medihelp places, not sure if you need insurance or not.

If it was me, I wouldn't do anything as long as it's not bleeding or infected, but you should get it looked at, especially if it's infected.

If it was bleeding, it probably cleaned itself, but if the area swells and gets red, go to the ER. Tetanus shots last 3 yrs, check if you need one.

first off, I think you mean tetanus shot? I believe every 10 years. Yes, I would have my foot checked by a doc.

that is a rather small wound, as long as it is not bleeding just clean it with soap and water and put a clean bandage on it.

As to the tetanus shot, it protects against infection from Clostridium tetani, which produces a toxin that causes spastic paralysis (lockjaw).

Ummm I may not be a nurse, but I'm pretty sure Tetrus is that fun game with the blocks and Tetanus is that funky disease you get from cutting yourself. A TETANUS shot prevents tetanus aka lock jaw. It's a nasty little bugger that can kill you. Granted with modern medicine it probably wont if you get help in time. You get a shot in America within a few years of being born. Then you need a booster every 8-10 years. As far as that wound being that it is Saturday I would wait until Monday and go to your friendly family doctor. If you try and go to the ER now you will be there until the sun comes up since you dont have a major medical emergency. But you probably do need to go to your doctor on Monday. yes you should go to the prompt care not er to get it washed ,get the tetanus shot if you havnt had one in 10 yrs and make sure its OK passably need stitches

You are talking about a TETANUS shot.you have 72 hours to get one,unless you have had one in the last 5-10 years.This disease is not allways caught by rust.There are many ways that you can aquire it,If however you have not got one,sadly to say ,your life maybe at risk.If you suddenly have severe muscle spasms in your upper areas of your body,and YOUR FACE,CALL 911 ASP.You maybe in intensive care for about 6 weeks at least.
