Tendon damage in thumb? |
My thumb was twisted back and now I have tendon/ligament damage in the lower part of my thumb. Anyone know roughly how long this type of injury takes to heel? It's been slightly longer than a week and it's still tender. I have complete range of motion though and my pinching strength is coming back. It's still sore though and I want to start working out again, but I don't want to make this injury worse. I've trained jiu jitsu for 7 years, and had previous wrestling experience. I have had tendon damage in all my toes and fingers... It takes what seems like forever to heal. Tendons don't get the same amount of blood flow as soft tissue injuries, therefore they don't heal as fast. Constantly massage your thumb and soak it in epson salt at least once a day with hot water, rotate the hot and cold on it, be sure to take some inflammatory pills (Ib prufen) consistently. Be careful working out if it's causing stress on the thumb... Sometimes these things just don't go away... I would say 8-10 weeks realistically... and sometimes 6 months if you continue to use it... DID YOU HEAR A POP? IF NOT JUST STRETCHED AND JUST SORE , AND SHOULD RETURN TO NORMAL IN A FEW WEEKS. APPLY HEAT AND THEN COLD TREATMENT. IF YOU HEARD A POP; AS I DID, MAY NEED SURGERY, BUT I THINK NOT AS YOU HAVE RANGE OF MOTION. AND LEARN FROM YOUR ACCIDENT / OVERUSE TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE AS AREA WILL BE A WEAK SPOT FOR MONTHS/ YEARS TO COME, AND WEARING A WRAP OF SORTS WILL GIVE SUPPORT. GIVE IT LOTS OF TLC.... |
