Medial malleolous fracture from wearing stiletto heels?

My inner ankle bone is very tender and swollen. I am not very athetic so this is not from a sports injury. The pain started after a long day and night running around on my three inch stiletto heels. I am a 30 year old woman, 5'7" weighing 113 pounds. Can you get a stress fracture from this. I am a little concerned about possible osteoporosis because it seems odd that I would have this injury for little reason. Is this possible?

Oh, actually the night with the heels was three weeks ago. The pain and swelling was bad that night, died down and resurfaced with a vengance a week ago.

Stilettos are terrible for your feet, back, ankles, etc...but darn they look good on a woman. I would stay out of the high heels for a while and see if the pain gets better, if not sounds like it is time to visit the old Doc for some x-rays. You may very well have a small stress fracture, I would doubt it though. Being 5'7" and only weighing 113 pounds it is not like you are putting a whole lot of stress on your bones even in high heels. Come to think of it, if you are 5'7" and weigh only 113 pounds you don't need the stilettos to attract anyone...at least not me. You sound like a fit, intelligent lady (medial malleolous fracture???), give up the pain.

tisssue?

Yes, this is very possible. If you wear stilettos often, you can put much more stress on your ankles and legs, and this can lead to injuries. Also, stiletto heels can disrupt your posture, putting strain on your back. You should stop wearing stiletto heels for awhile, and go to a doctor soon.

Hope you feel better!

yes, this could definetly be stress fractures. you may need to have x-rays done.

Its not a stress fracture b/c stress fractures take time to develop....think weeks/months not hours to develop a stress fracture. More likely is that you have tendinitis in your posterior tibialis muscle. The tendon crosses over the medial malleolus. That muscle is responsible for helping maintain balance and had to do a lot more work with you wearing heels (especially 3 inch). Try this...take an over the counter anti-inflammatory (Advil, Aleve, etc) as directed on the bottle and place a frozen bag of peas directly on the area that hurts for 15 minutes. Do this for a couple of days and DONT wear heels for a week or 2 to allow the inflammation to decrease.
