My foot turns outward. Should I be worried? |
When I was in first grade, I broke my right ankle. After the injury had healed, my parents and I noticed that when I walked, my right foot was turned outward. Instead of walking heel to toe, I was walking outside to inside. Although there was no pain or irritation, it still bothered me about how it looked. We thought that it was just from not using the muscle and would heal up. It's been a few years, and I still have this strange turn in my foot and there is still absolutely no pain. Could this be something serious or absolutely nothing to worry about? If it is an actual problem, what can I do about fixing it? I think you're going to be just fine. Try not to worrry unless you are getting some pain or actually stumbling on yourself. Many folks have little quirks about how they move and walk. My Dad walked very toed-out. I seem to have got that from him. It's OK... After breaks, setting can result in a slight 'turn' of the foot but usually only minor if the setting of the bones was done correctly. As a pre-med major, I have heard of cases (but no information other than that) and as someone who has broken his femur and also has a slightly rotated foot, I don't see a problem with it. If it is affecting your walking or any other normal functions, you should consult an orthopedic surgeon. If it is not bothering you, I don't see a reason to worry. |
