Severe heartburn and or acid reflux for several days!?

I have been having terrible heartburn or acid reflux for over 3 days now. I have taken tums, rolaids, pepto bismo, everything. It is such a severe burning in my esophages that I can't even sleep!
(I have been propping my pillow up at night, not laying flat)

I have always had mild heartburn and been able to control this, and I haven't eaten anything different. What's going on?
Could it be something worse?

I get awful heartburn from another medicine I take. I am on a prescription that is wonderful for acid reflux. It's called Nizatidine. Check with your doctor about it.
