Heartburn, is buttermilk good for you?

Im 16 years old suffering from heartburn would buttermilk be good for u for relief, can u suggest me anything else? what should i be taking and what shouldn't i be taking?

Buttermilk is very fattening. try some OTC anti acids. If you have heart burn a lot, go to the doctor to rule out anything serious, and he can prescribe a preventative medication.

In the mean time, cut down or elimnate caffine, carbonated drinks, and some say spicy or acidic foods.

I've heard that Apple Cider Vinegar with water is good for heartburn. Type "apple cider vinegar" into a search engine and look for all the testimonials from people who swear by this method. I think its something like 2 tablespoons of ACV to 8 oz of water. But check it out. Here's one link of many. http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvi...

Heartburn, or "acid indigestion", may be a symptom of a more serious condition called GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. If you are having heartburn more than 2 days a week, you may want to be evaluated for GERD.

GERD occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/... does not stay closed. Stomach acids are forced into your esophagus, causing "heartburn". This heartburn may cause your esophagus to erode and become inflamed; this may lead to a precancerous condition called Barrett's Esophagus, which then leads to esophageal cancer.

This article is a very good one about what to eat/not eat and what else to do/not do if you have heartburn: http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs03.htm

Some heartburn sufferers state that buttermilk helps heartburn symptoms. But if you are having these symptoms more than two days a week, you may benefit from seeing a physician for evaluation, diagnosis, and possible medication for GERD.

Be aware that two acid reflux medications, Prilosec and Nexium, have been very tentatively linked to possible cardiac complications. Read more about this at http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/early_comm/...
