Heartburn at 16 years old? |
Last week I started feeling this feeling in my chest especially after I ate, it felt like a lot of pressure and hurt immensely to swallow for days. I went to the doctor and she said it was heartburn, and prescribed me Prilosec. The medication did help, but I am still a little鈥nsure I guess. I am only 16 years old, and usually people get heartburn when they are over 40. Is this bad? Will it affect me even more in the future? I do know a few other people my age who have heartburn, but still. So many people are telling me to change my eating habits, but I eat really well. I don't even like spicy food, I don't eat much dairy either except an egg in the morning and some cheese on a sandwich, and never eat fried food. And I haven't felt any side affects from the drugs either. It is probably acid reflux disease prevacid is better than prilosect is it worse when eating spicy food. this is common in teens. There is no minimum age for heartburn, nor is there a maximum age. now-a-days you can get heartburn at any age that kids start buying food with their allowances as they tend to buy tacos and other spicy foods First off, get off the medication. Our country is severely over-medicated right now. Start an eating diary. Write down everything that you eat and what bothers you. Most heartburn/acid reflux is caused by food allergies. After you find out what bothers you, limit those foods. I cured my acid reflux, IBS and other digestive problems at 24 by not eating dairy and staying away from deep fried foods. It's hard to give up that blizzard and french fries, but I don't want to be on medication for the next 70 years of my life either. Having this problem at your age isn't a "bad" thing, but it's defiantly something that you shouldn't have to live with. Take (swallow) a teaspoon of vinegar, every hour until it stops. Preferably organic, but white vinegar or cider vinegar will do! It won't hurt you and it will balance the PH in your stomach, actually, you lack acid in your stomach, & it sits there with the grease, and rots! this gives you heartburn. Stay off the drugs, they are chemicals with side effects, stay away from fried food, try organic food. when you cook, boil or bake only. Use coconut oil to cook with when you do fry. It is delicious & gives the food a great flavor, Check out Dr. Mercola at http://www.mercola.com He has some great articles, about the fluoride in your water, pesticides in our food, chemicals used in processing, vaccines are bad for you, cookware to use that is not toxic, really great articles & more.
