Why does my heartburn get worse when I don't eat for a couple of hours?

My heartburn is usually caused by the normal causes- eating too much and eating certain foods, but I've also noticed that when I don't eat or eat very little, the heartburn gets intense. why is that?

could be an ulcer not just heartburn. with an ulcer your stomach usually feels better with a little food in it. See your doctor.

The stomach acid builds up in your stomach, and has no where else to go. Also, You may have something other than just acid reflux going on, so I would check with your doctor if I were you. Long term effects of any acid in the esophagus and throat are very damaging....it's acid that is meant to break down food, so just imagine what it's doing inside!
