Is this Heartburn? If not then what?

For the past 3 days I have been having what I think is heartburn. It is a burning in my throat and like a heaviness in my chest. When I take a deep breath in it feels like there is something in my throat and It feels like as I breathe in it slides down to my chest. I have been taking Rolaids, but they only work for an hour or two. I take four at a time. The only other time I've had heartburn was when I was pregnant with my daughter. I haven't been eating anything acidy or anything. Also I keep belching (sorry i know its gross maybe but I just want an accurate opinion.) It feels sometimes like i have something stuck in the back of my throat. I am 22years old if that makes a difference. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I also took Protonix for heartburn while I was pregnant. Any ideas on if this is heartburn or what I should do? Thanks so much!

I am 22 years old if that makes a difference!

Sounds like Acid reflux. Does it get worse when you lay down or are hungry? If so, you need to go to the doctor.
I have it & what you're describing is how mine started out. I figured out I needed to get it checked out when I went though an industrial-sized bottle of Tums in a month. I took Protonix for about a year & developed an immunity to it so am on Aciphex now.

Sounds like acid indigestion and reflux. You should see a Doc.

ask a docter

I am pretty sure thats strepthroat. Heartburn is only when you eat greasy foods and will not burn your throat. There is no current cure for strepthroat so try not to talk or eat cold items for the next few days. If it worsens or stays go to a doctor. Sorry for the bad news : (.Hope you feel better

You may want to go to the Dr, especially since it has been the past 3 days. If it is gas drink a 7-up and try to burp out as much as possible.

Stop taking all of those Rolaids. Have you tried Prilosec or Pepsid?

Because it always feels like you have something stuck in the back of your throat, I think you should make an appt. with your doctor to have that checked.

This could be acid reflux if the burning is in the throat as well as chest pains.. when you mention burping this is one way your body gets rid of gas this is normal don't worry however the burning in your throat is a indication there is something acidic happening in your body... you should see a doctor about this if it persist as it could be a sign of something more serious than just heart burn.

Gastroesophageal reflux is a physical condition in which acid from the stomach flows backward up into the esophagus (tube leading from the mouth to the stomach). People will experience heartburn symptoms when excessive amounts of acid reflux into the esophagus. Some patients may have chest pain or discomfort with it. Some even experience the bitter or sour taste of acid in the back of the throat. Symptoms may last for hours and may worsen after meals, with exercise, or when the person lays down to sleep at night. All of us may have occasional heartburn. But frequent heartburn, food sticking in one's throat, food regurgitation, choking, or weight loss may require a more extensive evaluation and treatment by your physician.

Yeah it's heartburn i should know I have acid reflux i have to take medicine for mine. You should drink milk and bread it will soke up the acid in yor stomache. Actually heartburn comes from not having any acid in your stomache to break down foods.

Sounds like indigestion or acid reflux. For those things you might want to see a doctor because the doctor can give you prescribed medicine that works rather than over the counter. For the time being stay away from things like OJ and tomatoes. Anything too acidic.

It sounds as though it could be reflux, also known as "GERD" (gastroesophageal reflux disorder). This is a condition in which stomach acid flows upward into the esophagus and causes a burning sensation. It can also cause a number of other symptoms including chronic sore throat.
You could try an over the counter medication, such as Prilosec, which is similar to Protonix. Other tips for GERD: Avoid eating for a few hours before bedtime. Prop your pillow or bed so that your head to stomach is at an incline. That helps gravity keep the acid where it belongs. Avoid activities that involve bending over (which allows gravity to help that acid flow to your throat where you do not want it).
Avoid eating large meals. Smaller more frequent meals are better.

The belching may also be related to excess gas in your digestive system. You could try taking one of the over the counter anti-gas medications.

A visit to the doctor would be a good idea too, especially if these symptoms continue. If you do have GERD it is best to have the condition monitored by a doctor. If left untreated it can lead to esophageal cancer.
