I have Heartburn. Will Doing treadmill exercise trigger Heartburn? |
I am a chronic heartburn patient. If I do treadmill exercise i get heartburn more. But walking doesnot do this. Please advise me good exercise which will not trigger Heartburn. hi there, seems to be that any jarring and bouncy exercises are causing your stomach to churn a little more and therefore expel all the stomach acids up through the oesophagus (food pipe) so basically short of just sticking to walking you are going to have to attempt a trial and error method with all the exercises and see what does the least damage - swimming is a nice fluid motion and a great workout, running a no-no, something thats a great core strength workout like pilates or yoga if you can handle the more laid-back exercises. you've probable heard it a million times before but another factor is obviously things you eat that cause acid reflux - you should know these already so just make sure that you don't eat these before a workout or within a few hours before, still to neutral foods and if you must take in the more acidic ones post gym. good luck and listen to your body! You should still be able to do the treadmill just dont do it anytime immediately before or after eating. If you do exercise immediately before or after just make sure it is something less vigerous. Walking - you're on the right track already:) try to make sure your on a empty stomach when doing treadmill sometimes it can push acid up. you may want to slow it down and just do more minutes. The treadmill shouldn't have anything to do with it unless your doing it right after you eat. Exercising is very healthy when done in moderation. I wouldn't stop exercising I would just make sure I didn't have a full stomach and see what happens. Thanks, SUZY how do you know it's heart burn and not angina or worse? who told you? do you have acid reflux disease diagnosed by a doctor. exercise shouldn't make heart burn worse unless you have acid reflux disease and you exercise too soon after you eat. you need to have a complete cardiac work over to rule out the possibility of heart disease. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. also, what is your family history? does heart disease or hypertension tend to run in your family, on either side, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters? what risk factors do you have? but surely you have considered these questions already. Hi there, heartburn is mostly due to hyperacidity. it can also be due to ischaemic heart disease. ECG/Tredmill test/Angiogram will help diagnose the problem. First try a PPI (Panataprazole, Rabeprazole, etc.) to reduce acid and see it the symptoms come down |
