A heartburn question?

What does it mean when the last two nights you've been having heartburn at bedtime? Last night it got extremely painful(On the pain scale of 1 to 10, it'd be a 10), you took tums and prilosec to get rid of the pain and it took an hour and a half to get rid of the heart burn. Also your throat was burning and had little air pockets(that when you burped water came in your mouth). Is this serious? What does this mean? When should I talk to my doctor?

This is awful, I sometimes get this and when I do it's usually for two or three days at a time. I take Gaviscon. The symptoms you describe fit the heartburn/indigestion diagnosis, but if it goes on much longer I think you'd do well to get your doctor's opinion. Good luck!

the first step is that you need to eat less at mealtime, those are common signs of over eating. second cut back on the food that has been giving you heart burn. take the heartburn meds before you eat to give your body a head start on handling it.

If you have a drink of alcohol right before bed... stop. it can only make things worse. when you lay down in bed at night, lay in a slightly inclined position and slightly lean to your right. This angle will help the acid in you stomach to pass through your duodenum to the intestines, instead of your esophagus.
