Excruciating Heartburn?

I'm 20 years old and have been having extremely bad heartburn recently. I've read all about it and have been making sure to not eat close to my bed time. I've usually ate 5 hours before bed. I've been waking up 3 to 5 hours into my sleep with the pain. I can't imagine having a heart attack after experiences this heartburn! It's so bad. I've tried taking tums and antacids when I eat and before bed, but the burn still comes. When I take an antacid when I have the pain, it doesn't help at ALL. I'm on the medicine Prevacid because I started getting Acid reflux more than a year ago (when I started burping up acid so bad it started to ruin my teeth). The actual heartburn didn't start until this past month. I have a doctors appointment in a couple of weeks for my yearly checkup, but in the mean time I need some tips to help. I've been getting it almost every night and today it went on from 8 am until 4pm. Any help would be great! Thank you very much.

p.s. I've tried to sleep sitting up, but it doesn't help.

Oh wow, that's tough. Your doctor will hopefully be able to help you with this. In the meantime avoid alcohol and food high in fat. One drastic thing I do sometimes when I have really bad heartburn is to drink a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda in it. It's hard to drink and I only do it when it's really bad. The only thing is....you will have to drink it when you actually have the heartburn. If you're taking preventative medicine for it and you're still getting the burn....I don't know. Something is going on inside that needs medical attention. Good luck to you.

try pepto bismol.. but u shuld go to a doctor and see wats up

Don't wait that long to see your Dr. Call him and tell him it's an emergency.

i had a friend that started getting heartburn and stuff really bad for about 3 weeks and they said she was pregnant...also i just asked my husband and he said that milk always helps him...he drinks alot of milk when he eats anything to avoid that but yeah i think you should call your doctor immediately as well.

My daughter has it bad also and she is on Prilosec.
Keep your appointment with your doctor and be sure to tell him/ her about it.
