I don't have Parkinson's Disease but...?

My head bobs. I know it sounds crazy (that's what the nurse said at the doctor's) but it does. It usually bothers me when I'm sitting still, like at church, when I'm on my computer, watching TV etc. My current doctor thought it was probably Parkinson's but a neurologist checked me out and said no way. Another doctor's said it had something to do with a valve in my heart. I do have a slight leakage but nothing to worry about. Is this possibly what it could be? Does anyone else have this problem? I can put up with it but still it concerns me. I really don't want to take medicine for it if it's not necessary. Thanks.

Let me give you some possible answers based on statistics. It is most likely that you are experiencing something called "essential tremor." It is inconvenient, but not life threatening to people that have it.

It is less likely that you have a "parkinsonism" or a "Parkinson's plus" condition. If this is the case it may take some time to get a really precise diagnosis. See this link:

Your odds of getting closer to a good diagnosis improve if you go to a neuologist specializing in movement disorders. They often practice at university hospitals. Just ask the person that answers the phone if they completed a fellowship in movement disorders.

You email me or contact me via Yahoo! 360 if you want to "talk" more. Good luck.
