My mother/law is having heart surgery, and after the surgery they will give her insulin-do they always do thi |
do they always give insulin after heart surgery..she has a tear in her main artery to the heart..they are reparing this, and told us they will give her insulin after the surgery, they always treat after care like diabietes...why is this??? In diabetic it a protocol to give insulin after surgery, in Diabetics. yes Not unless she's diabetic. I have never heard of such a thing. Maybe they are anticipating some sort of post surgical stress hyperglycemia. That's just a guess yes, even if she is not diabetic....a body under the stress of a major surgery will raise it's blood sugar levels, it is a normal response....controlling/lowering the glucose levels using insulin leads to a better healing and better recovery.... |
