Have you had open heart surgery? |
I am 52 years old and had a massive heart attack and a triple bypass in 2002. It changed my life in many ways. My attitude changed, I now have mood swings, and I'm not the same person I was before surgery. Do you experience any difference in your life after your surgery? It may not necessarily be the surgery that is causing the mood swings but your emotional response to the entire event. Having a life threatening experience like that can certainly be stressful and result in many emotional changes like depression, anxiety, or even post traumatic stress disorder. In men, depression can often be displayed as aggression, irritability, etc. I would consider talking to your doctor (primary care doctor) about your mood swings to determine if this is something that can be helped. when I was 8 I had three surgerys for appendacites, it kinda did, my mind accually sped up, and m personality changed, but tha's it My husband had open heart surgery 5 years ago....actually on Sept 11, what a horrific day that was.....but he is experiencing the same things you mentioned, his doctor said its not uncommon at all, he was put on Zoloft to help with depression and I cant tell you what a HUGE difference it has made in him.....talk to your doctor Absolutely. I do not know if it was from heart attack, or surgery or meds we have to take. It happens to a lot of by-pass patients. Hope you go to a shrink or have your primary doctor give you something for your mental problems. I will say that I know you had a very scary experience and it is hard to get it off your mind. Good luck and take your meds My heart attack was on 6/11/01 |
