Sleeping after one month of heart surgery?

I have had a heart surgery one month back, it was an open heart surgery, so my sternum was cut to expose the interiors.
I want to ask how long do i need to sleep straight -- on my back, can i now start sleeping on side.
How long do i need to sleep on my back to get healed my wound completely.

I had twice open heart surgeries i.e. in 1991 and 2002.
Now coming to your question, you say it is one month already and I hope all the wounds etc. would have healed and you should have started walking freely as per advice of Doctors. Are you talking any medicine for sleeping. Even if you take or not, you can start sleeping on your side or on your back which may be convenient to you, but remember to put one pillow on your each side. Sleep in a fairly broad bed so that you do not fall even if you take medicine for sleep. You will recover soon. Best wishes-

Dear Friend, i had my open heart surgery in March 2005, I also found it difficult to sleep side ways at the start. When you are sleeping sideway at the start just use a fairly big pillow to cuddle. It will help. Do start your daily exercise and physical training mild at the start and increase as the time goes. you will notice that you feel better. May be YOGA will be a good option.
Best of Luck

I am not a doctor, but i have had open heart surgery a few years ago. I was able to sleep on my side around 1 month after the surgery. I rolled over on my side while i was sleeping after a couple of weeks but the pain woke me up. it should take about 4 to 6 weeks for the bone to heal.
