How can I get an open heart surgery scar to disappear?

I am a 13 year old boy who has had open heart surgery 5 years ago. There is a scar about 7 inches long on the front of my chest. I want it to go away. Can anybody help me?

hi my daughter had open heart surgery when she was 9 months old .sorry to tell you that the scar dont go away it will probably fade and you may get chest hair to hide it but dont be ashamed off this scar for it is this that probably saved your life my daughter wouldnt trade her scar for the world she is only 5 years old now and loves her magic scar that fixed her poorly heart chin up kid and and any woman who thinks its ugly is shallow and you deserve better take care kid and keep smiling xx

There is no way you can be rid of it, it's there for life I'm afraid. As you get older it will fade and you will probably grow chest hair that will cover it.

you`d need the advice of a plastic surgeon on that one young fellow

Leave it be.

Chicks will dig it when you tell them that you had an operation on your heart.

my younger sister is the same, she is now almost 18, i advised her a few years ago to use vitamin E cream, it is now barely noticable

Scars do not ever really fade I have a scar across the front of my neck for everyone to see i do not mind it is a small price to pay for being well ,your's is on your chest i don't see what the problem is you can wear clothes to hide it ,or is it a reminder of your surgery that you are trying to forget ,scars today are neater than they have ever been ,forget about it and enjoy your life you are too young to be worrying about this .

I have had many ops over the years and i use a product called bio oil on my scars. It helps fade them and keeps them smooth. You will never get it to go away and yes you will be self concious about it and really embarrased about anyone seeing it but eventually it will just become part of you. You wont remember its there and a lot of people wont even notice it. What I will say though is remember and use a total sunblock on it the first time it sees the sun. Its very painfull if it gets burnt!!

You survived open heart surgery! and are worried about a little scar?
If that was me I would be showing the scar off to the whole world.
Well done young man, have a great life.

Sorry dude, no can do. Unless you have more surgery to change it. I'm a 22 year old female wth the same problem. I've a scar all my life. It'll keep fading, thankfully, and it will stretch (it kinda hurts) and change as you grow, but it will never go away. Mederma is a med you can get at the drugstore which will help ease the pain of it stretching and fade it a bit, but not completely.
You have an amazing story to tell. You are a survivor, wear your scar like a badge of honor. Girls will think it's hot. Trust me. :)

Sorry to say, scars are just that. Scars. They fade with time, and the longer you have them, the less you remember they're there. There are topical creams you can try (palmers cocoa butter lotion is my daughters favorite for her scar) but really, only time can change them. I know being a teenager is rough. Kids are mean, way more often than they are nice. Just keep in mind that your scar is something to be proud of. You faced a huge trial and came out victorious. You're pretty cool, and your scar just reinforces that. :)

try Bio Oil it worked for a friends surgery scars
