Any parents of children that had open heart surgery..?

My daughter had open heart surgery little more than a year ago at 21 months old. She is now 3.She has pnamonia now for 2nd time. Doctor told me regular colds turn into pnumonia for her since her heart and lungs are weaker than other kids. She caught a cold first from one of my other kids. Has naybody have this problem too. And what steps have you taken to prevent this when one kid is sick or in public places they say where others have colds.

My daughter who is now 6 had heart surgery last December she did have open heart surgery though. She had to have a plug placed into of the valves. She as well stands a higher chance of developing pneumonia quit readily as well. I have 2 other children who live at home an she attends public school. When she has symptoms of a cold we usually try to call the Doctor and make an appointment My daughter has an enlarged heart so she gets extra amounts of oxygenated blood the plug has stopped the leak but they said that she would be more likely to get pneumonia. We just try to keep the germs down by encouraging hand washing and drinking from their own cups. I really don't know any other things to try . Ask your Dr and maybe he has some ideas for you.

Good luck hope your daughter does well
