Heart Murmur question? |
I have a benign heart murmur, ive had it since i was born too. I was wondering if it has any effect on my heart rate, because im an athlete and ive heard that you can tell your in good shape if you have a low heart rate. Well my resting heart rate is in the 70's so i was wondering if the heart murmur effects my heart rate. Your Heart Murmur(unusual Heart sound) should not effect your heart rate. I am not really sure. I do know that heart murmurs are pretty common. But since you are an athlete it is always a good idea to have your heart checked out by a doctor. Usually heart rhythm disorder will increase your heart rate. In some cases heart rate can decrease. The murmur is basically a "leaky valve". The murmur sound is created by one of the four valves in your heart failing to shut properly. This will probably never be a problem for you, and will have no effect of heart rate. usually when it's a genetic it goes away as you age. murmurs are benign and asymptomatic most of the cases. it affect heart rate about 5% only. Normal heart rate in a healthy individual is 60-100 beats/min. In athletes usually heart rate is a little slower 50-60. Unless you have lighheadedness, hypotension, dizziness and weakness, it will not cause an alarm. A heart murmur is an abnormal heart sound produced when there is turbulence of blood flow within the heart which may be cause by narrowing of the valves or insufficient opening or closure. Since you have a benign heart murmur, it will not cause an alarm unless you experienced restlessness, palpitations, tremors, chest pain. My advised is keep on exercising and doing either aerobic exercises and cardio exercises as well. Seek a Cardiologist consult for further questions. |
