Heart Murmur and energy drinks?

When I was born I had a heart murmur. The doctors say that they havent been able to hear it recently, but that it could still be there. Because of this my mom tells me that I shouldnt have energy drinks. Why can't I have them? What do they do?

Energy drinks are terrible for you. It's the next step up to disease from so called "soft" drinks. There's nothing soft about soft drinks. The amount of sugar in them should be enough for most people to file law suits against those companies making them. 1 teaspoon of sugar per ounce! That's 64 teaspoons of sugar in a Big Gulp and I've seen people get seconds. No wonder over 30% of all Americans are OBESE; not just fat, but obese. 80% of all Americans are over weight. 75% of all Americans die of heart disease. Does this sound like a healthy country? We rank 24th now in the world for longevity and going down. 23 countries have people that live longer than we do.

The diet soft drinks are really bad. The artificial sugar substitutes they use turns to formaldehyde in your body when you drink them. It's no wonder the liver's of Americans are diseased and can't produce enzymes the way they should and to add the garbage drugs the doctors are prescribing to fix the problems is a complete joke.

The energy drinks contain enough caffeine to stimulate your adrenals for a quick high and then they are exhausted and cannot produce adrenaline when the body needs it. These companies should be run out of the country. Unbelievable.

If you want energy, the body does really wonderful on Whey protein, fruit juices from fresh organic fruit, and a good night's sleep to recharge your adrenal glands. Our bodies are designed to live between 120 and 140, but what we do to the body gives us about 1/2 of what it could.

Don't buy or drink the so called "energy drinks." They should be called "fast high that stinks."

good luck to you

they make your heart beat at a much faster rate. i used to drink quiet a lot of them (1 to 2 per day) and sometimes my heart would skip beats

They contain a lot of caffeine.

Adverse Reactions from caffeine include:

* Cardiovascular: Cardiac arrhythmias, tachycardia, extrasystoles
* Central nervous system: Insomnia, restlessness, agitation, irritability, hyperactivity, jitteriness, headache, nervousness, anxiety
* Endocrine & metabolic: Hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia
* Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, gastric irritation, necrotizing enterocolitis, GI hemorrhage
* Genitourinary: Increased urine output
* Neuromuscular & skeletal: Muscle tremors or twitches

it depends on what was causing your heart murmur
most murmurs are from a valve defect (most commonly from the valves between you ventricles/arteries).
if you ever had a diagnosed problem, i.e. a valve defect you should probably limit your caffeine consumption, caffeine is a stimulant and increases heart rate, putting stress on the heart.
i think most energy drinks have about 2 times an espresso - worth of caffeine in them? i'm sure you can have one once in a while as long as you have no symptoms from it, shortness of breath, palpitations, pain etc...
Anyway, a shot of espresso in the morning is better than a red bull...

Energy drinks usually have caffeine or sugar or something in them that cause your heart to race. This over works your heart. If you have a heart murmur this will cause you to wear out extremely fast. It can cause shortness of breath, tiredness - to the point of exhaustion. It over exerts the heart. She is right, they would not be good for you. Take it from experience.

Stir away from energy drinks whether you have a heart murmur or not. You can get natural energy from exercise, proper sleep and the foods you eat. Energy drinks give you the false feeling of being energized but when they wear off you crash and burn, leaving you to feel like you have even less energy.
The usually put a lot more caffeine in them. A lot more then soda. If you barely eat or if you haven't ate and drink one you will most definately feel extremely jittery and some can upset your stomach. They usually are very high in calories because of there sugar content. You could eat a whole meal sometimes two that would be more satisfying then one little drink.
Listen to your mom on this one and don't bother with this phoney energy.
