Is a heart murmur something to be worried about?

this past flu season me, my daughter & my husband caught the flu and when we went into the doctors office she said she noticed my husband had a heart murmur.
but that it was probably from his fever or the flu.
is that even possible?
is this something that should be looked into?

Heart murmurs are common and often nothing to worry about. When we listen to patients' hearts, all we are hearing is the valves closing, and occasionally blood flowing through the heart/valves which causes a murmur. This is often due to increase heart pumping in the case of a fever as your husband likely had with the flu. This is more likely to be heard in thin, young people as there is less distance between the stethoscope and the heart. Other causes for murmurs include narrowing of the valves, hardened valves, incompetent valves, or less commonly defects in the wall separating the chambers of the heart.

The bottom line is, if there was a murmur there when he had a fever, and now it's gone, there is nothing to worry about. Hope this helps!

doesn't sound right. but I had one and it didn't do anything to me.....yet.
