My baby has a heart murmur, need advice!? |
The doctor has just told me that my 10 week old baby has a heart murmur and is referring him to the hospital to get it checked. He has also been short of breath recently. Are the two linked? If so, is a heart murmur serious? has anybody elses child had this? Sweetie, don't lose hope. A heart murmur is quite common in children. My son was diagnosed with it and has outgrown it. He was 3 when diagnosed and is now a 15 yr. old healthy young man. It is great that the doctor found your babie's murmur this soon and has referred him to a hospital for testing. Don't beat yourself up. There is nothing you have done wrong and nothing you can do about it but following your doctor's advice. Just don't despair, as your mood will be "picked up" by your baby. The shortness of breath may very well be related to the murmur, but only testing will give you the peace of mind you need right now. Make sure that you keep the baby close by, if nothing else, place a monitor in the babie's room and one in your bedroom. Don't drive yourself crazy, sweetie, get an appointment as soon as possible and make sure you mention the breathing problems. That ought to get you seen right away. I don't want to scare you, but if the babie's color changes or he/she starts coughing, proceed to the nearest ER, or better yet, call 911. I hope you have somebody with you, if not, don't hesitate to come back and contact me via Yahoo. I'll try and help as much as possible and/or will try to talk you through the morning. Hang in there. Your baby needs you. MsB. nope but that him 2 the hospital asap the shortness of breath my be asma is there a history of that in your family?? my daughter has a heart murmur. she is 5 and she has had it since she was 5. they listen for it whenever she goes to the Dr. but they said hers isnt to serious so its nothing to worry about and it shouldnt effect her. So hopefully your babys wont be serious either. i was born with a heart murmur that i grew out of yes the breathing is linked do not worry as it isnt serious and most people do grow out of it hope this helps you go back ask your doctor for sure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_murmu... Highly unlikely to be serious at all. I had one when I was born, but I was rid of it by the time I was about six or seven. My parents weren't bothered by it at all. as far as I know! firstly dont panic , we had the same news at a very early check up with our daughter , it was diagnosed as pulmanary stenosis which is a valve prob and they monitor but it seems to be getting better as she grows, she also has a tiny hole in the heart but this will heel itself, i was terrified , but heart problems in babies such as murmers are very minor and they usualy sort themselves out, doctors will answer any worries and we can call a cardiac liason nurseany time . our girl is a normal healthy toddler now and i know its scary but you will be reasured soon, dont check websites to much they can be dramatic and the best info comes from proffesionals, all the best hun xxxxxxx The hospital will be able to tell you more. |
