Does anyone have a heart murmur?

I have a heart murmur. When I was in 3rd grade I got scarlett fever (yes I know it's a "dead disease"), and it made the heart murmur active. I am supposed to have an echocardiogram every year, but I haven't...at all. I've only had about 5 echocardiograms. I want to know if anyone else has yearly echocardiograms.

If you've had scarlett fever you really should have an echo every year. I know it's difficult to work in sometime but it can be well worth it. Scarlett fever (aka rheumatic heart disease) can attack the valves in your heart and cause a variety of problems. Echo's are important because it allows the doctor to see if the valve openings have gotten smaller (called stenosis) or if the valves are leaking (called regurgitation or insufficeny). If they are able to catch it early, these can be treated and reduce the risk of other more life threatening problems from occuring. If you have a leaking valve or a narrowed opening, it can cause your heart to enlarge and lead to problems like congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension which are treatable but cannot be cured unless you have a heart lung transplant. Please consider having a yearly echo done. And if yearly doesn't work, talk with your doctor about how long between echo's is it safe for you to go.

I have a heart murmur but it is an 'innocent' heart murmur. I've had it since I was a kid. There's no negative effect of it, so I don't have echocardiograms, although I did when I was much younger.
