Conerns about my mums heart murmur and her job?

On christmas day my mum was taken to hospital with chest pain and the docs found she had a heart murmur and have refered her for a heart scan next week.
She has a doctors appointment tonight to discuss what happened and I have concerns that she has quite a stressful job which involves quite a lot of lifting.
Should we mention this to the doctor or are we overreacting? My mum is only 56
Thx
Clarabella

i've suggested she pack the job in but she likes being active. Each wednesday she has to sort around 150 charity bags lifting etc and I think its too much

the type of the murmur should be established with the cause.sometime stress and hard work can cause serious conditions because of the murmers.Murmers are usually because a heart ot a large vessel valve does not open or close fully.you should do mention it to the doctor, and I believe that if you dont mention it he will ask her.

The act of lifting and straining (Valsalva maneuver) may contribute to the heart murumur. I would definitely mention it too the doctor.

Tell her to jack the job in, her health is more important.

well, it's always better safe than sorry.. and it's only right to be concerned.. so you might as well mention it

Your mum should definitely discuss her the pressures and duties of her job with her Dr, who is the best person to advise on this matter knowing your mum's medical history.

She should also make her employer aware of her condition so that they can do a risk assessment, taking into consideration the new medical information. Your mum should tell her employer what her Dr has advised. If your mum doesn't tell her employer of this new medical development then they can't help her, which may be able to do by adjusting her duties, easing pressure, etc. However, if it was deemed that your mum was no longer fit for the position they could offer her a lower position at a lower rate, which they consider that she is fit to carry out.

At the end of the day, what does she want to choose her job or your health?? ask her this question!!
If you tell the doctor about the job he will tell her to give it up and take it steady, but your worried about your mum and you want what is best for her.
I wish you both luck and hope everything is fine and goes well.

Well from personal experience, i dont see any need for your mom to worry so much yet,, I have a heart murmer ,, even though I had open heart surgery to re-place the aortic valve in 06, June,, I still have the murmer (not quite as loud) but its still there. I am told by top cardioligist this is normal to still have. I was also told exercise was a good thing , and after my re-couperation period i could go back to my normal life style. I own a industrial cleaning business, and lift heavy equiptment all day long. I am doing well even though I have CAD as well.
Open heart surgery is not a prescription to quit working ,, it slows you down for a while but not forever ,, in most cases!!

no i dont think your mum shud give up her job ...... but shud try not to do so much just wait and see wot the card says
as lots of poeple have hart murmers and r fine with them and they never ever bother them
