Running with Heart Murmur?

My sister who is six years old has heart murmur.
I don't think that it's severe because we would rarely have her visit her doctor's office. She had one hole closed up 2 years ago.

Sometimes, I would have her speedwalk, or jog for short periods of time. She'd complain about the common lactic pains: abdominals, thirst, and stomach cramps.

But what I'm most concerned about is her heartbeat.

I wouldent worry to much if the hole closed up. the main problem with murmurs is that when the heart is pumping all of the blood is not getting out and there for good oxygenated blood may not all be getting out into circulations. they are at risk for chf. but if she was in danger of over doing it the drs would have let your parents know and they would have said something about it. she may tire easier but as long as she is feeling fine she should be ok I dont know all of her details though and you should ask your parents this question as well.

A heart murmur occurs when one of the valves responsible for preventing back flow is damaged in such a way that it allows for a certain degree of back flow of blood into the heart. Depending on what percentage of back flow is incurred can determine whether the murmur is severe or mild. Assuming that the leak is mild to moderate, it will give symptoms such as breathlessness while exercising. If you are really concerned, take her to a doctor for an Echocardiogram - this non invasive test shows the doctor a picture of her heart on a screen and he can then determine how severe the leak actually is.

Well, it really depends on how SHE feels, she will learn her limits. My son was born with a CHD called Tetralogy of Fallot and one of his problems is having a VSD ( hole in between the two ventricles. He had his VSD and his Pulmonary valve removed when he was 9 months old, but will always have problems from it. He is still learning his limits and gets pooped out pretty quick. You are wrong about one thing though - it NOT being severve, if it was a big enough VSD, or ASD for her to have to have it closed it was pretty large. Just keep an eye on here and watch for exertion, or severe tiredness, she may also get chest pains, just ask her how she feels, and don't MAKE her do any straining physical activity. As for the answer the guy above me gave, don't pay any attention, most people that don't personally have to deal with it don't know jack ----. A murmer, is not a problem itself it is meerley a SOUND behind a problem, so it means that there IS SOMETHING WRONG!!!! Hope all goes well with your sister, just don't wear her out...lol=)
