What is a heart murmur can it hurt you?

my boy freind has a heart murmur and i want to know what it is and if it can hurt him.

there is many types of murmurs but each one is due to a lesion in the heart valves mainly .. the situation is dangerous
however , once my sister's physician said that she has murmur & required an ECG for her but everything was normal . another physician denied this fact :d

I had one when I was a baby and it is gone now with no effects to my health. I can't remember what exactly it is though.

My son had a heart murmmer when he was born. it is a hole in your heart. it can eaisly be cured with surgery.

I had a suspected one when I was a baby,I think basically your heart skips beats every now and then, I don't think it's worth worrying unless he has other heart problems.
