I've just found out I have a heart murmur... is this caused by bulimia?

I've always been active, had great health, but awhile back.. I fell into bulimia. I was bulimic for about 3 years, then i started having problems breathing, which scared me very much, so I stopped. It has been a year or so since then, and recently I went to the dr. for a physical, and was told that I have a heart murmur and that I need to come in for an EKG. I have told no one of my bulimic past. But, I know this is probably what has caused the murmur. I am very scared and know that I have more than likely caused myself permanent damage to my heart because of what I have done. Does anyone know what this could be? Do 'murmurs" go away eventually after a person stops being bulimic? Could I have an arrythmia or an enlarged heart? If so, is this something that I will have forever?

I also had bloodword done

The bulimia is not the cause of the heart murmur. People are frequently born with murmurs and the majority are benign.

The bulimia could have caused electrolyte imbalances including low potassium which can cause arrythmias. The arrythmias could have cause the shortness of breath. It is unlikely that caused long term damage. They would resolve when your electrolytes went back to normal after you stopped purging.

Sweetie, I doubt it. I was also bulimic, and My EKG's have always been normal. Many people have heart murmurs.
You might have a potassium deficiency caused by the purging, though. Did you have bloodwork done?
