Phobia of sudden heart failure resulting in death?

i have am irrational fear that my heart is just going to suddenly stop and I'm going to drop dead. and I'm going to feel my heart stop. and someone is going to find me hours later, dead. i would like to know if there is a name for this phobia. it's not just a fear of dying, but specifically, of heart failure. what is this called???? i also sometimes get an overwhelming sense of impending doom sometimes for some odd reason.

You have a panic disorder. You are exhibiting classic symptoms. Your heart will not just stop without cause. There are a number of systems in place to keep it beating. It is an irrational fear but you can't see that. I have a REAL heart condition and I don't even worry about my heart stopping. Fear of impending doom is a very typical symptom of panic disorder. I lived with person suffering from the same symptoms. See a psychiatrist. It can be controlled. Its a chemical imbalance. Fix it and don't let it keep affecting your life. You will be amazed at the difference once its treated.

it's called, gotnothingbettertodo fobia. keep your mind and body busy and you will forget all ur fobias

I'm not sure that there is a specific name for that phobia, but it does sound very similar to what people experience when they have panic attacks.

You have a phobia. A phobia a lot of people share but won't admit. I am one of those people. I have been in the health field for 20 years and have seen everything and I am terrified of dying. So terrified that if I think about if I will become hysterical and have a panic attack of sorts. Especially as I get older and realize that at 41 years old more then 1/2 my life may be gone. I just avoid thinking about it and busy myself. That's enough talking about it, find a hobby or something that you can do especially when you feel yourself starting to slip. I am not sure if you believe in god or not, if you do you may want to go to your church and speak with someone in the parish. Good Luck. By the way, death is the unknown and people fear the unknown whci is perfectly normal

Yeah, it sounds like you have either a panic disorder, or an anxiety disorder.

I suffer from an anxiety disorder, and lately i've felt very similar..I have a lot of chest pain and heart flutters so it completely freaks me out. You just have to remember that you're fine and that it's just anxiety...nothing will happen to you.

I'd recommend seeing a therapist and trying congnitive behavioral therapy...it'll help you re-direct your negative thoughts. Good luck :) I know how you feel!

Your chances of getting flattened by a Mack truck are better than dying of sudden heart failure, or a heart attack, provided you are a relatively healthy person with no heart condition.

However, the chances of you having panic disorder, I'd say, are high. I have it too, and I had the same fears (I have a heart problem though)

If you want to talk about it, and share ideas of how to cope, please E-Mail me
