Boyfriend has leukemia now at risk for heart failure- what can we do now?

My boyfriend has AML leukemia and has recently had his second relapse. He has had 2 bone marrow transplants. His last transplant was a year ago. we found out about the relapse 2 weeks ago and so he received a high dosage of out-patient chemotherapy and then shortly after started to get fevers and was admitted to the hosptital. He was fine for the first 2 days and then after that he started getting delerious and seeing things. they tested his neurological system but just found out that it is actually his cardiac system that is being affected.

His heart is not pumping as fast as it should and now he is very short of breath and they also found water in his lungs. they said that there is nothing they can do to make his heart stronger and that it is very possible he could all of the sudden have heart failure unexpectedly. I am very concerned because i want to know why they are telling us that he will inevitably die.

What is the best hospital to be treated for oncology/cardiology

Also they claim that this heart issue could be from the chemotherapy or could be from an infection and that they dont know. they said they are gonna wait till tomorrow to even have a cardiac doctor look at him.... shouldnt that be done immediately??

If he dies of the heart issue will that be considered malpractice? I am concerned because i love my boyfriend and want him to be in the best hands.

i dont care how far away it is but i will take him there. right now he is in one of the ok hospitals in boston. i wish he could go to a good one like Dana Farber Cancer Institute or Massachusetts General but am I able to decided whether or not he can leave the hospital he is at to go get care somewhere better?

I am sorry. Unfortunately heart failure can absolutely come from the chemo. It can also be caused by infection, which is not unusual after the chemo. As for it being malpractice I doubt it, but I am not a lawyer. Should he have a faster cardiac consult? That would be ideal. I wish I could be of more help. I would say the best hospital is John's Hopkins or the Mayo clinic. That being said I do not know if it would matter. I am so sorry and you and you BF are in my thoughts.

The way you described his condition, I think shifting will not be a good idea. Instead you should insist on getting cardiologist's opinion urgently regarding management. It is a cardiac emergency. I hope things will improve considering the etiology being side effects of chemo that has now been withdrawn.

My sister has had tons and tons of surgeries on her head, her bowls, heart, blood, intestines, spine, and so many other things its crazy....she's 10 and she is almost completely fine, other then a few scars here and there.....she's been through so much its crazy..........wow I know where your coming from, sitting on the edge of your seat not quite sure WHAT is gonna happen, yeah been there done that, ok now the hospital that my sister has had like 8 of her surgeries at [all of which were more than a sucess] were Walter Reed hospital silversprings, MD....I dont know if that helps any, but I can totally see why your worried and I'm really sorry [your probly sick of hearing that though, I know I get that way] anyway, good luck finding a hospital, and just keep believing, It will get you through.......I'm praying for you, and I hope your boyfriend makes it, I know what its like not knowing whats gonna happen to a loved one.......you'll get through.

what can you do? enjoy the time that that you have with him and make the best out of it. BE happy and upbeat and hope for the best! Best of luck!
