How to help the combo of dizzyness and nausea caused by heart failure?

any ideas? please- and also, any remedies for the soul and heart of someone with heart failure?

Hi Lillie,

Light headedness (dyspnea) is usually associated with low blood pressure, particularly for HFers who are generally on an ACE inhibitor and a beta blocker, both of which lower your BP. My wife, who has dilated cardiomyopathy, talked to her cardiologist about it and he recommended taking the ACE inhibitor before bed time instead of in the morning, and that really seemed to help cut down on her light headed spells.

Nausea may well be a side-effect of one of the medications you are taking. This is something that you should definitely follow up with your doctor about.

By the way, if you don't find that your doctor is willing to work through some of these issues with you, I would strongly recommend that you find a heart failure specialist. Heart failure is not very common, so a general cardiologist won't have the experience required to do a good job of fine-tuning your medications.

As to your heart and soul, I think you are taking a great step by asking questions on-line. Taking an active part in your own treatment is very important for your own emotional and physical well-being. I recommend finding an internet group where you can share questions and answers with others in the same boat as you. I'm a moderator on the Yahoo cardiomyopathy group, and we have links to many other bulletin boards and information resources there.

i dont know but my dad had a valve replacement not long ago then a stroke. and about 2 weeks ago i was on here playen a game it was late at night i heard a boom. he was on the floor i helped him up asked him what happened he was like i fell over something .i looked wasnt nothing there i think he lyed too me .and i think he passed out or something my mom says he said that so we dont worry im going to tell his doctor but i dont want him too get mad at me ... or maybe he got dizzy i have no clue..

I've had heart failure now for 11 yrs. the nausea sounds like it's caused by the meds. Check the side affects, even the rare side affects. Some people are sensitive to medicines and if there is a side affect, they are going to have it. The best thing is to have them change your medicines one at a time. there was one medicine that used to make me so weak, I told my doctor to give me something else because I refuse to take that one. If your doctor isn't listening to you, fire them. I know a lot of people get dizzy when they are on coreg. If that is the case, you might need a lower dose. another thing, do not take any decongestants. They always make me dizzy and nauseated. Besides they actually make things worse. Also if you are on potassium, it can make you nauseated. Try waiting 30 min before you lie down, or have them change the kind of potassium you take. K-dur always made me nauseated. there are other types of potassium.
