What is the chance of a child being born with Transposition of the great Arteries? a heart defect? |
I have a son who was born with a congenital heart defect, Transposition of the Great Arteries (or Vessels). Heart defects are the number 1 defects for live births, occurring in 1 out of every 100 births. Now, what are the odds for a child to be born with Transposition (i.e. 1 in ___ births), as it is pretty common? Actually congenital heart defects occur in 1 of every i agree with medicgvd.. transposition is as such rare in congenital heart diseases.. most common is Ventricular Septal Defect, but risks may b high for second child as u already hv one with it.. also there's association with Diabetes. it'll b better if u take genatic counselling on this.. You also need to talk with your son's pediatric cardiologist and your OB about the risk of subsequent children having the same defect. Good luck with all this. Kids are now doing very well with these congenital heart defects, and I'll keep you in my thoughts. |
