Do I have a congenital heart defect?

I am a woman in my mid-twenties. I've never seemed to have as much stamina as other people in exercise from elementary on up. I was always bringing up the tail end in PE runs.

In high school PE I would jog on our runs until I was out of breath and my chest hurt (a pressure sensation) and then slow to a walk. This would happen even when I was playing on the tennis team and I know I was in shape. I could go at my own pace in tennis and not strain myself.

Lately, I've been going to the gym to try to shed a few. It doesn't take long to get to target heart rate. A brisk walk is all it takes. I don't even feel like I'm working. Then, when I increase my pace, my pulse gets up to 160+, easy. And that's about the time my "exercise induced asthma" kicks in. Then I slow down.

I'm seeing my doc this week and plan to mention this, but I wanted to see what others thought.

this can only be known with a heart monitor

it,s probably your asthma my daughter dose the same thing and she has asthma

There's not much way to know before you go to your doctor, but then, that's why you're going, right?

Good luck!
