Heart defect in 7 year old boy....question.? |
My 7 year old had a Co-arc repair done at 2 days of age. Angioplasty at 6 months and 18 months. He is now 7. His last heart check up went good. No massive worries but that was a year ago. Childrens told me they didn't want to see him until he was 9. However, he recently started complaining of leg cramps and he seems to get a little tired more easier, more often. Not massive, but a little concerning. If anyone could give me some helpful advice that would be great. Just because a cardiologist says he/she doesn't need to see you for two years doesn't mean you're over-reacting if you think you need to she him/her more often. One of the biggest helps for pediatric cardiologists is parents who pay attention to symptoms. Call your cardiologist, and let the office know about the symptoms, and you might ask about getting a blood workup done on your son, and finding out if he has low potassium levels, as that could cause both the leg cramps and the lethargy. Otherwise, your doctor may want to run some other tests to check everything with the heart. The worst that can happen is your doctor says he's fine, and you sleep better at night. Good luck! Have your doctor refer you to a pediatrician for regular visits. As the child's mother - use your instinct to determine your next best move. If you see things in your child's behavior and health that do not seem 'normal' (relatively speaking, of course) bring him to see a physician and list your concerns. If you don;t get the answers you feel are appropriate - take him to another physician. Bottom line is - you need ot take responsibility for the child's health - it's your job! If YOU feel he's not feeling well and you feel it may be cardiac related - go see a doctor and tell 'Children's' to take a hike - you'll bring him in whenever you feel it's appropriate. Must get a medical opinion. Better safe than sorry. We are not experts and are therefore justified in getting expert advice. |
