Can a person with a heart defect be a cop? |
I have tetralogy of fallow. I want to be a cop because i can't be in the army. Can I be a cop with my defect? I'm not that knowledgeable in police services. However, I think it depends on the type of cop. A desk clerk cop or patrol officer? Desk job probably. If the Army won't take you, neither will any police department, because you won't meet the physical activity requirements of the job. YES BUT YOU WILL BE AT A DESK. Most companies won't take you and heart defects are high up on the "overlook candidate" category. It is always better to find out from the recruiting agency what the requirements are for being a cop. If it is not a serious problem they may consider. more than likely not especially not a street cop you will be considered a health risk a liability but the only thing they may hire you for is working in the office. coffee and dought nuts, but i'm not sure about a heart? No you can't become a cop with any serious health conditions. They require the same health as the military. No it is different if you developed a condition after becoming a cop then they'd have to find light duty for you. Sorry. Not as a Police Officer...in any capacity. To much risk and liability involved. I know....after 33 yrs. of law-enforcement, I developed a cardiovascular condition..Aortic Dissection. Even after corrective surgery, I was unable to complete a physical-agility test...ended up with TMJ. I was retired the next day. |
