Does a weak heart at birth mean heart problems later in life?

I was born with a sizeable hole in my heart. The doctors said that if the heart didn't heal to at least a murmur by age 1, open heart surgery would be needed. Luckily, the heart healed to a murmur, by that time.

I am 33 years old and, by listening to the heart, a murmur is no longer detected. My concern, though, is - if I was born with a heart defect, could this cause problems later in life?

Not necessarily...make sure you see a Cardiologist for a check up (stress test, ect) and you should see him/her at least once a year. Good luck!!!

Nope Dan you fine

no not at all
my son had 3 hole 2 very big all fixed and no probs at mo
my oldest daughter had a hole that closed on its own most holes are from the pda witch shuts off after birth usually in the first couple of days but can take up to a year but will have no lasting side effects so don't worry Dan that will coarse stress and that's much worse for your hart
