What causes fever, when a child has conginital heart defect? |
the child is being diagnos w/ congenital tubercolosis, and is being treat w/ TB drugs, as trial medication, CBC.LOMBAR puncture, 2dcho, xray. still can't find cause of fever. kid has VSD, ASD, coarctation of the aorta Well it could be a number of things that cause this. one it could be the medication side effect, especially if its a trial med. Also it could be some kind of infiltrative cardiomyopathy such as sarcoidosis or amyloidosis. If your child has also had a lot of IV therapy there is a chance it could be infective endocarditis. So just make sure your health care provider is taking steps to solve it, including some blood cultures and if need be even a myocardial biopsy. Fever is usually caused by a virus - one thing might not have anything to do with the other. What was the whitecell count? Get a blood culture and search for a bacteria infection. |
