Has any one had the procedure done for a birth defect in the heart?

Im 18 and just recently found out that i have a birth defect in my heart. I went to the heart specialist a couple of days ago and he told me about a procedure they can do where they go through my leg and neck and into my heart to fix the problem with some heat electrical currents. I didnt really understand it i was really stressed and trying to listen.. BUt has anyone had this done or know anything about it?/ if so.. does it hurt? and is it something worth doing.. its either surgery or medicine the rest of my life and not knowing when my heart is gonna start racing again..

They're talking about an ablasion, where they do a catherization and burn a few pathways in your heart. I've had a cardiac cath before, several times actually. But never an ablasion.
I can tell you this: the caths are no big deal. I've had them, and watched them.
First they prep you, then they give you drugs(versed or valium) to make you feel loopy, then they inject Lidocaine into your thigh to numb it so you won't feel them open your artery or snake their tools up your artery.
It feels like pressure, but your awake the whole time.
The cath's I've seen take about 15 minutes start to finish, but yours might be a little longer.
Most people go home the same day.
I myself have had open heart surgery.

I can tell you this too: if you don't get it done, assuming your medication works, life is good. If it doesn't, you have to go into the E.R. or call the medics and have them either A. inject a drug into you to make your heart stop for a second to reset itself or B. cardiovert you, which involves passing electricity through your heart.
If you want to know more about it, E-Mail me

Yh the leg thing is called a cathita (dont no how to spell it) i have had 7 of these they hurt a little afterwards. It feels like a brick is on your leg because of the pressure they have to apply after the op. (its more of the grind then the leg)
I have also had 5 open heart operations which is when they cut down your front open and do stuff there.
So all together i have had 12 heart operations but i dont remember most of them. I had my first one when i was 3 days old and im now 14 years old.
So if i can do it im sure that you will be fine.

If you want to talkt more to me email me
Im sure you will be ok
Good Luck x

Yeah, I had about 3 or 4 catherizations in my groin but not involving heat electrical currents. But Im sure you will be fine after.
