Heart attack???

From time to time, I feel this strain with my heart. If I slump and hold my left arm closer to my chest, it gets better. Is there something wrong?

I'm 22 yrs old.

It is no way related to cardiac pain, must be some muscular pain, check out with your doctor.

that's not a symptom of a heart attack but it does suggest that there may be something wrong with your heart. i am not a cardiac/telemetry nurse but i think it sounds indicative of your heart maybe having some fluid around it. it is harder to breathe when you are lying on your back? you really need an exam. please, please call tomorrow.

I change my answer to Ace's. I would still go and see someone and let them determine what is wrong.

No, there is nothing wrong, at least not with your heart. Chest pain of cardiac origin is not affected by body position. You could have a hiatal hernia, or a pulled intercostal muscle, or gas that is compressing your thoracic cavity though. I wouldn't worry about your heart anyhow.

Any pain in your heart or chest area is your body telling you something is seriously wrong. It could be a mild heart attack or any number of heart related diseases. Get it checked out as soon as possible, but don't go to your family doctor. They usually don't have the equipment to run the proper tests. Go to the ER or make an appointment with a cardiologist directly. They'll run a few tests and then you'll have a valid answer.

You need to be checked out by a doctor. The heart is nothing to fool around with.

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself.

Re-read Ace's answer; it's a good one.
