A heart attack? or just anxiety?

ok, i started weight watchers in January 2007 and by april i had lost like 40 pounds so i decided to start walking and jogging I would walk for about forty five minutes and then jog for like 15.on June 29th i was sitting at home and my heart started to beat faster like racing and then slowed down. After that happened my left arm started to get numb and i started to freak out which probably did not help the situation. I went to the doctor and they did and ekg exam and they said that i was ok and that i probably had a panic attack. Well now it Dec and to date i have lost 85 pounds. I constantly worry that im going to have a heart attack and sometimes my chest starts hurting and i'd like to think thats it's all in my head but sometimes i think that it could be something really serious. I have stopped walking and jogging because im scared that i will have a heart attack and drop dead. I am constantly worrying about it and people tell me that it's all in my head and not to think about it.

take viatmim b12 or go get a a b12 shot on your buttocks. i was in your shoes about 5 five years ago and thats what my doctor prescribed and im still here.

it could be panic attacks or that, definitely not a heart attack, unless your older than 30 probably/

If your arm gets numb...it might be a sign of a stroke. I would go get it checked.

if it was a heart attack I'm sure you would know.

panic attacks can seem like a heart attack and would think a heart attack may feel like that. plus panic attacks can happen any time any where. ..

just breath, deeply

Go to a therapist - I have a friend who actually was rushed to the hospital because they thought he was having a heart attack. After running all the tests, they determined that he had a panic attack. As long as your doctor has assured that there are no problems with your heart, you should pursue controlling your anxiety, as that can really mess with your daily routine and the way you want to live.

First of all congratulation on your 40 pounds loss, second of all it's most likely that is not a heart attack and that it's a panick attack since you seem to worry so much, but a chest pain should always be checked out by a physician, no matter what.

Chest pain should always be checked out by a physician, so I recommend that you call your physician and describe what's happening. The doc may want you to come to the office or go to a nearby hospital for tests and stuff. You really should follow through on this as quickly as you can. Worrying about it isn't going to help.

This sounds like a panic attack which can feel very much like a heart attack, sorry to say. I've had a actual heart attack AND panic attacks. Like you, my EKG was normal after the panic attack. How old are you? That could be a deciding factor...?
I take Paxil and it's helped a LOT. Also; ask your doctor how to perform the 'vagal (sp?) maneuver' on yourself. It's easy, and it will slow your heart rate down, which will calm your anxiety some, after about 5 minutes. Unless you were born with a heart defect, I would keep walking and light jogging - it's good for your heart! :)

If the doctor says your ok, I would go with that. Or get another opinion. If I were you I would not stop walking and exercising.

First of all I would bet the farm that you did not have a heart attack. I had one once and if you ever have one you will know it. This sounds like a panic attack. Stop worrying, it is not good for you and only makes the panic attacks more frequent. Exercising is good for you, I would not stop. You might want to make an appointment with your doctor to get medicine for your panic attacks.

If you have no organic cause for your symptoms that your doctors can find, maybe it is anxiety. Hopefully you have had a complete work-up physical especially since you are losing weight. Your symptoms could be related to a thyroid problem or any number of other things...since your body is changing so rapidly.
Moderate exercise is good for your heart, so with your doctor's permission try to get back to at least walking.
Then consider that if you were obese for a long period, you may have psychological issues causing anxiety. Sometimes people feel "safe" behind their obesity. Once you start losing weight their can be issues that surface you were not even aware of. Some women for example, become fearful because they have lost their reason not to date or be involved in a relationship. You might want to talk to a therapist about this.

Hiya, How ya doing, first of all well done for loosing the weight, you are doing the right thing there. Its been the same thing for me lately, getting chest pains left arm numb and yes constantly thinking about it, making the symptoms worse. I too had an ecg and that has come back ok, along with blood tests. I still think that they are missing something but I will have to wait and see. My advice to you is just do the gentle walking, it will be good for your heart and not too strenuous, sounds like you had a panick attack too. I get alot of them. Quite scarey. The walking will be good also for these, helps clear the mind. natuaral production of endorphines too, on the mind. Good luck to you, good health and all the best.
