Hearing problems...What is best ???

Which product is best ???...

Siemens "Music" or Rexton "Calibra 3 ITE"

I ask this because im having hearing problems and i want to decide between siemens or rexton

Can you tell me why do you think one is best than the other...

thanks...

Hi there,

Siemens is a solid brand of hearing aid. Rexton is marketed as an "economy/value" brand, and is an off-shoot of Siemens. I've dispensed both brands over the years, and haven't found any dramatic problems with either brand - and some audiologists argue they are the same thing underneath it all.

Regarding Siemens Music, I wouldn't be keen on recommending this product to a client now. It is one of the older models in their current range. They've brought out more recent products in the last 6 months. Digital technology has improved a lot recently, and you really want the latest models. I believe the latest products from Siemens are Centra and Acuris.

If you see various Audiologists/Hearing Instrument Specialists, some of the latest ITE products they may recommend are:

(These ITE models are written from basic to advanced)

OTICON: Tego, Tego Pro, Safran, Syncro

PHONAK: eXtra, Eleva, Savia

STARKEY: Destiny (various levels of complexity)

My dad has just been fitted with a pair of Starkey Destiny CICs (completely in the canal). On paper, his hearing loss is too great for CICs, but he has found these to sound great. He particularly loves the fact he can pick up a regular (not cordless phone) and it automatically switches to telecoil for easy listening. He's an audiologist too, and really tried more hearing aids than a normal person. He's worn hearing aids for 20 years.

So, have a chat with your Audiologist/Hearing Instrument Specialist and see if they'll provide information on other models. Don't forget, all products should be sold with a return period e.g. 30, 60 or 90 days. So if a particular pair of hearing aids don't suit you, you can have a refund or a trial of an alternative product.

Having worked in the computer industry for many many years, I can only comment about the reliability of Siemens products. Have used many of their products and have never experienced any major problem and when I had a problem, they fixed it in a timely manner.
