Is there really help for people with hearing problems. I have to ask people to repeat several times.?

They just don't understand. I feel so stupid. I've gone to several hearing specialists including the doctor the clinic recomends and even Miracle Ear. I've seen specialist several times because one of my hearing aids didn't fit and it made my ear sore. I'd like to stay home and forget about being social, but I know that would be a mistake. I have a few friends that understand. I have diital hearing aids and it shuts out some bakground noise. But I have trouble with soft sounds. They can't turn them up too much.

My friend wouldnt wear her hearing aids when she was in grade school (till college actually) because they would hurt and get alot of feedback. Her first solution was to become friends with me, Im deaf enough that I just talk REALLY LOUD and make direct eye contact in conversation. In the time that she didnt wear them people thought she was stupid becuause she never told anyone she couldnt hear, she would just respond with things that made no sense. Basically, let people know and if you got to ask multiple times then thats fine. Would non-digital hearings aids help you perhaps? Eitheir way, you can keep being social, just have to find a social group that knows the boat. :) (There's more than you might think.)

Learning how to lip read might help you -- if you can pick up some of the sounds with your hearing aid and lip read to fill in, it could make life a little easier. But what did the specialist do about the hearing aid that made your ear sore? He should have been able to adjust that.
Please don't stay home and ignore the rest of the world. This is a problem that can be solved, it's just a question of finding the right specialist to help you solve it.
And don't be embarrassed about asking people to repeat things. If you do it a couple of times, they'll figure out that you have a hearing problem and speak more clearly and more directly. Believe me, it's much more embarrassing to pretend you understand and make an inappropriate response, than it is to ask for a repeat and make sure you do understand.
In any case, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Hearing problems are on a par with vision problems, and no one is embarrassed about wearing glasses. So head back to that specialist and get the hearing aid adjusted so it is comfortable, keep asking your friends to repeat things when you need to do so, and just relax. You sound like a pretty nice person.
