Problems hearing or concentrating?

Over the last few weeks I have noticed a deterioration in my ability to respond to people speaking to me. I would not say that I'm loosing my hearing, as I am aware that I'm being spoken to... however I can't seem to process the words being said, and therefore can't respond. I find myself asking people to repeat themselves numerous times, even though I can hear them perfectly.
Does anyone know what this could mean? It's becoming more and more frequent. I'm a 17 year old girl, and feel akward going to the doctors as it seems such a trivial/ ridiculous thing to explain. Help?

hey, i've been having a simulair problem, but not as bad as your's has been getting. sometimes i can hardly understand english, even though its the only language i speak. when people talk to me, sometimes, even when i'm doing my best to listen, i just can't comprehend what they're saying to me. some days its worse than others, but for the most part its been getting worse gradually.
i dont know exactly what youre going through, because there're many different things that might be going on. i would deffinately consult a proffessional, though, before getting too freaked.
i'm in a psychology class and we've been discussing all the abnormal psychological things you might find in people, and i've been learning so much about little quarks i have might be linked to dozens of different problems. i'm no hypocondriac, though, i dont diagnose myself with everything we learn about. but it opens your eyes to how many different things might be happening. i wouldnt get worried right away, but i also wouldnt let it progess. just talk to someone and they'll help you out.
best of luck to you. c:

It isn't trivial when it is impacting on your life. Getting your hearing checked is the easiest and best place to start. Go on and do it, and if its OK then talk to your doctor about the rest of it.

Seek medical advise you could have a brain tumor or something. This isn't trivial !! Best Wishes.

Its not trivial at all!

I just happened to drop by and you put this under Mental Health so you know its not your hearing.

Do you have a school counselor you could talk to about this?
Without talking more to you no one can really say more what it might be. But you are right to find out about it and try to get help early before it gets worse.

The school counselor after talking to you and your situation can tell you where to go next. If you or your parents don't have health insurance the school may know a doctor you could visit in your town.

I had trouble thinking, listening and understanding at your age so I know it can be helped, so don't give up.
Hang in there!

Oh! Our hearing is not trivial! Why is our sight important and our hearing not? It might be hearing loss, just at specific frequencies. Certain letters in human speech are at different frequencies. Basically you are hearing m ty in on y th w en I wr t . I have the same thing though. I call it the "Charlie Brown" thing since everone sounds like the adults, "Wah wah wah....". It happens once in a while to me and I usually remedy it by putting on my glasses, which means I probably compensate my loss by reading expressions. Go to audiologist! They can help you! (I still have to go myself...SHAME!)
