Can you give me some potential problems of hearing impaired persons?

Can you give me some potential problems of hearing impaired persons?

I could go on all day about this, but here are some of the main problems.

I can't use a normal telephone. My phone calls go through a relay operator who types what the other person is saying.

I can't hear backup alarms on trucks, doorbells, oven timers, telephones ringing, sirens, alarm clocks, or anything else that uses sound to alert me to something.

At work, I am not permitted to go into the plant without someone who can hear because I can't hear warning bells or anouncements on the PA system.

I can't hear people calling my name or coming up behind me and talking.

I read lips, but I need good lighting, and the person has to be close. In addition, since about half of the speech sounds look the same on the lips, I need to guess what a lot of words are based on context. Lip reading is very tiring.

Classroom situations are difficult because the instructor usually turns to the board to write something when he gets to an important point. As soon as he turns away, I can't tell what he is saying.

Most people put their hands in front of their mouths from time to time while they are talking. They also turn from one person to another in a group while talking. When either of these happen, I can't tell what is being said.

Movies, unless they have captioning, have no sound.

I can't hear music.

Any place where I have to push a button to talk to someone, I have a problem. At gas stations, I can go inside and talk to the clerk. In the hospital, I am out of luck. I had major surgery last month. Everyone was told that I was deaf, but this information was lost at shift change. I needed a nurse the first night after my surgery. When I pressed the call button, nothing happened. (I was later told they thought the button had slipped between the matress and the railing at the side of the bed because I didn't say anything when they used the PA to ask what I wanted.) I ended up walking to the nursing station dragging a pole with a morphine pump, an IV bottle and the bag connected to my catheter. The nurse was upset because I was not supposed to be walking at that point. She acted like it was my fault that information about me being deaf was not transferred at shift change.
