Do People that have NO Hearing, or are Deaf have problems spelling?

not to be rude at all, but do you (if your deaf) have a challeging time spelling due to the difficulty of comparing letters to phonetic sounds that you haven't heard yet?

or does it become second nature to just recognize the structure of words?

I'm deaf and never had any problems with spelling. I actually correct hearing people's spelling errors. In order for me to learn a new word, I need to first read it and know it's spelling to get an idea of how it is pronounced. I'm oral and was taught to speak and lip-read. I've always loved reading books. My nose was always in a book and still do. That has helped me have a high level of reading, spelling and grammar skills.

Some people just are naturally not very good spellers whether they hear or not. I've seen a lot of hearing people that don't spell very well. It all comes down to one's educational background, how often they read, how well they paid attention in English class, self-motivation and parental support in their child's education. It's really a combination of several factors. I've known many deaf people that spell just fine.

By the way, it is spelled "challenging."
