Bipolar disorder and hearing? |
My dad is currently taking Zyprexa. He has been on it since Jan. 8th of this year and he started w/ 5mg and worked his way up to 15mg's a day. He is much calmer and thinks more rationally now, but he still has a problem with sounds. My parents lived in an apt. bldg on a busy street, but moved to a house on an island that is much quieter. But, there are kids and a dog that play outside and my dad gets so nervous and upset when he hears them. The funny thing is that he puts the mute on the tv so he can hear them and even stands by the window. He wakes up every morning and moans and complains about being in that house and he cant wait till they move back to the city so he can go travel. (he thinks that his belongings are safer in an apt. than a house). Whenever I talk to him on the phone, he sounds sad and always complains about the noises and being in that house. Is he ever going to be normal again? Hi I totally understand what it is like for your dad. I have bipolar and some of the meds can drive me so crazy from the sounds around me. I personally think you dad needs something to do and somewhere to go to. if he is only sitting around and all he has to do is listen to the sounds around him it could drive him a little mad. the funny thing is that the less busy noise around the more you notice all the little things and if he is a city man then he will be used to that kind of noise. so enough of me rambling on with myself. I hope that it all works out for you family and just wanted you to know that people are here and do understand. Yes he can have a normal life but what you might think is normal may not really be what the real him is. I mean for the most part bipolar people as long as stable can have a "normal" life (what ever normal is). I have had bipolar since I was 10 years old I am totally stable and with out meds. but I do now that I can go off the rails at anytime and need to go back to the meds again. If you think that it might be the meds that are not helping him or making him feel like this then say something to is doctor. maybe not sure. |
