What psychological disorders would cause someone to be messy to the point they get evicted? I've heard people

say it is caused by a mental illness when it is that bad.

but it's not normal to be that lazy, to the point that the mess is so bad they get evicted, or at least that's what i learned.

It is when people become hoarders. They collect things excessively and can never throw things out. Their homes become cluttered to the point where there is barely room to move. It is a mental illness.

Some messiness could inadvertently be due to depression (e.g., the person simply does not have the energy nor the motivation to care for themselves or their dwelling). In other cases, OCD can be a factor (particularly in cases where hoarding is involved).

Sometimes, however, it has nothing to do with a mental illness, and everything to do with garden variety laziness.
