Son hearing things that weren't really there? |
My son has a mood disorder possibly heading for bi-polar. Tonight when he went to sleep he asked if I had called him, I said no. Then later he asked what i was watching I said nothing and then he said he heard a women on the news. This is the first time this has happened. Could he of been falling asleep? Then he asked me if he was going crazy. My son is 12 years old, thanks for all the replies. sometimes when i go to bed i'll start dreaming, but i'm not quite asleep yet, and then at some point i'll be fully awake again. perhaps he was just half-asleep and imagining it. based on what you wrote, i wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes with bipolar there can be hallucinations. This may not be the case of your son, but if he does have a mood disorder, he is more likely to be at risk for developing other symptoms. I know sometimes, though, that I think I hear someone call my name and nobody has... maybe he had started to fall asleep and he dreamt he heard the TV. Either case if possible and if he has a counselor or psychiatrist, I would definitely bring this up to him and see what he says. It is difficult to say since I don't know his whole case and history. Good luck to you and your son though. how old is he? could have been him just falling asleep, any number of things, an active imagination. he may have asked you if u were going crazy as a kind of defense mechanism. is he aware of "possibly heading for bi-polar"? kids dont miss anything, be careful not to lead him to believe you think he might be crazy or going crazy. its a very sensitive issue. dont worry too much unless this repeats itself. since this is the first time u know. just keep an eye on him and treat him as normally as possible. take him to your local mental health ccenter as soon as possible. It sounds like he may be developing schitzaphrenia early warning signs linda r I WOULD MAKE SURE YOU HEAR HIM AND DON'T PLAY AROUND BECAUSE IF THIS IS REAL GOING ON THEN THEIR COULD BE MORE THAT WILL COME UP. AND WHEN KIDS GO THROUGH THE CHANGE OF LIFE SOMETIMES IT CAN MAKE THING NOT RIGHT WITH THEM COME OUT MORE. SO I WOULD TAKE HIM TO THE DOC. THAT TOLD YOU HE HAS A MOOD DISORDER. SEE WHAT THEY FEEL THEY SHOULD DO! I don't know how old your son is but the best answer is for him to see a psychiatrist. I recommend a child psychiatrist if he is still under 17yrs. The psychiatrist will be able to make a complete evaluation on your son which can not be done in a simple reply such as this. If he is actually hearing voices, there are medications that can help. Reassure him that "he is not going crazy" and that it is not his fault. Reassure him that things will be ok. Get him to a psychiatrist ASAP for his own comfort. |
